The ILM offers two level 3 courses in first line management

  • the Award in First Line Management, which covers the basics of the subject matter and is an ideal bridge for those who have been away from a learning environment for some time
  • the Certificate in First Line Management, which is a longer and more in-depth programme suitable for those who would like to further develop their knowledge and skills

Is the ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management course for me?

The ILM Award in First Line Management is designed for people who are likely to become, or who already are, first line managers/supervisors and who have sufficient work experience to allow them to benefit from the programme and contribute to the group. The Award is an introductory course, particularly suited to people who have been away from a learning environment for some time.

What are my career prospects/next steps after the course?

Successful completion provides eligibility for Associate membership of the ILM.

The units that you achieve in the Award can be carried forward to the ILM Certificate in First Line Management.

How is the ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management course delivered?

The course is a ‘fully taught’ programme that requires attendance at facilitated and tutored workshops in Manchester, which are run

  • one evening per week for ten weeks

or

  • one afternoon and evening per week for five weeks

Where do the workshops take place?

The course is delivered at venues throughout Manchester. We can also provide courses in-house at an organisation’s own premises. Please see our information about bespoke training for business.

How long does the ILM Level 3 Award in First Line Management course last?

Five or ten weeks, depending on mode of attendance.

How will I be assessed?

You will be expected to complete

  • a work-based assignment, based on problem-solving and decision-making, applying the learning to your workplace
  • written assignments on the other three units

Guidance and coaching will be given.
