Human resource practice (CIPD level 3 foundation certificate, CHRP)

The qualification is for people who are new to HR (human resources) or interested in moving into HR. For example, you could be:
- an office manager or team leader with people management responsibilities
- a new member of the HR team
- interested in a career in HR
- seeking accreditation from CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development)
You don’t need any previous qualifications to enrol on the programme.
You’ll gain the skills and knowledge to get your HR career started. Modules include:
- developing yourself as a learning and development practitioner
- understanding organisations and the role of HR
- recording, analysing and using HR information
- resourcing talent
- supporting good practice in performance and reward management
- supporting good practice in managing employment relations

- 10 face-to-face workshops
- workbooks and textbooks for home study
- self-directed and group work using the virtual learning environment (VLE)
- tutor support between workshops
- written and practical assessments
Our teaching style is interactive - we don’t lecture you. Workshops are your opportunity to talk with your industry colleagues about the material you’ve studied in your own time. They’re also a great chance to network. Your MOL tutor will encourage discussions that help you get the most from the material. We select passionate, knowledgeable HR professionals to support and inspire you throughout the programme.
Our workbooks and textbooks are commissioned by CIPD and written by HR experts, exclusively for our programmes. We break the theory down into manageable chunks and include real case studies and self-test questions.
You can get support from your tutor over the phone, by email and through our VLE. You’ll find activities, blogs and extra resources on the VLE.
It takes nine months to complete the programme, with a break of about four weeks between each workshop. Don’t worry – your life and career won’t be on hold! We’ve structured our programme and learning materials so you can learn on the go and in your own time.
Once you’ve passed all the units, you’ll get a CIPD Foundation Certificate in HR Practice.
As you’d expect, your greatest gain will be career enhancement. CIPD qualifications are invaluable to a HR professional and MOL allows you to qualify without taking a career break.
Human resources is a broad field these days, with many different areas of expertise. Our CHRP programme looks at these different areas, how they work together and the theories behind good practice. You’ll have a good foundation for work in any area of HR.
We offer three start dates a year so you can fit your qualification around your busy life. MOL offers this flexibility because we know you need to consider your circumstances and factors like your employer’s budget cycle.

From autumn 2013, both MOL and CIPD’s own learning delivery arm will offer separate programmes for CIPD Level 3 Foundation qualifications (CHRP and CLDP). This will give you more options and make it even easier to choose the ideal programme for your life and learning style.
