How the CIOB CSSS relates to S/NVQs and the CSCS scheme S/NVQs

The CIOB CSSS course is a professional programme in which you gain new knowledge and skills to enable you to carry out your current role effectively and to develop your career in the future. It leads to a qualification awarded by a professional body (the Chartered Institute of Building – CIOB) and includes membership of that body.

An S/NVQ is based on the assessment of your skills in the workplace. The purpose of an S/NVQ is to show that you are competent to perform a certain role in the workplace. Your skills and knowledge are assessed against standards set by an organisation representing the industry.

So, an S/NVQ shows that you can perform your current role to the required standard. A qualification such as the CIOB CSSS gives you new knowledge and skills to develop your abilities. The two types of qualifications work together because the CIOB CSSS syllabus is linked to the S/NVQ standards.

By doing the CIOB CSSS, you are also starting to show that you are able to meet the S/NVQ standards.

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)

The CSCS was set up to help improve safety in the construction industry. The scheme requires people working in construction to obtain a card that proves their occupational competence. There are many different cards for each type of role and level of skill on a construction site. A trainee card is available for people who are registered on supervisory and management courses.

Visit the CSCS website (www.cscs.uk.com) for further information about the types of cards and how to apply for one.
