Certificate in Construction Site Set Out
The MOL Certificate in Construction Site Set Out is a short, practical course that covers the basic planning, surveying and levelling processes involved in setting out a construction site.
Is this course for me?
The course is designed for construction site supervisors, operatives or anyone who would like to expand their knowledge of construction site operations.
Do I need experience or qualifications?
No formal qualifications or experience are required.
What does the course cover?
The course covers all of the background information and practical procedures that are required to set out a construction site.
It covers the information that is needed to plan the project before work begins on site, as well as the good practice required to ensure that accurate information is obtained.
You will also carry out all of the mathematical calculations involved in surveying and levelling, and learn how to use surveying and levelling equipment.
During the practical workshop on site, you will put the theory into practice by working with other students to set out the site for a construction project.
How is the course delivered?
The course is delivered by flexible learning, which consists of
- an induction by telephone
- a two-day practical workshop
- two workbooks, which you will receive in good time to complete before the workshop
- support by telephone
Are there any exams or assignments?
There are no examinations. There is one assignment, which is completed during the two-day practical workshop.
When can I enrol?
You can enrol any time. You will need to allow for six weeks to complete the two workbooks before the practical workshop.

What qualification will I receive?
On successful completion of the course, you will receive a MOL Certificate of Achievement.
Are there any opportunities for further study?
This course covers the material and assignment necessary to complete one module (Maintaining Lines and Levels) of the Chartered Institute of Building’s Certificate in Site Supervisory Studies (CSSS). The Maintaining Lines and Levels module is one of six modules of the CSSS course, and students completing the MOL Certificate of Achievement in Construction Site Set Out will be exempt from this module if they go on to do the CSSS course.
How much does it cost?
The course costs £350, including workbooks, tutor support and a practical workshop (but not including travel and accommodation expenses).
