Studying by Flexible Learning

MOL has the expertise and resources to give you the support and flexibility that will help you fit studying into your lifestyle and work commitments.

We offer support and flexibility in...

...where you study

MOL runs courses at venues throughout the UK, and can tailor courses for businesses requiring in-house delivery (in the UK and internationally).

You can also move between venues even after you are enrolled on a course, if a different venue would suit you better. MOL can provide a smooth transition between venues.

...when you start

We run courses throughout the year, with many programmes starting three or four times per year. Find out the next start date.

...where you take your exams

Exams are held near our delivery venues, in May and November of each year.

...if you would like to move to MOL from another training provider

MOL is delighted to welcome students from other providers onto our courses.

...if you would like us to take prior learning into account

We could be happy to discuss any ‘prior certificated learning' that you have.

...whether you do all or part of a programme

Our programmes are modular, so you can study the modules individually.

...in what order you study the modules

With MOL, some programmes included in the Professional Development Scheme (PDS) can be studied in an order that suits the needs of you or your organisation. We are able to provide expert advice to assist you in planning your course.

...how and when you contact your tutor

MOL's team of highly experienced tutors is available for you to contact at any reasonable time (including evenings and weekends) by telephone, fax or email. The level of support that we provide is highly praised by students, employers, corporate clients and by the CIPD.

...helping you to make alternative arrangements if you cannot attend a workshop

Workshop attendance is a vital part of your studies and there is an expectation that you will attend all of the workshops planned for your group. However, if you are unable to attend one of the workshops, we have the infrastructure and tutor support required to explore alternative arrangements. MOL operates throughout the UK and has multiple start dates.

...fitting studying into your life

Our flexible learning courses are designed to help busy people fit studying into their home and work commitments. Our materials are highly interactive and easy to use, so that you can study at times that suit you.

As a guide, you should look to allocate approximately four to six hours per week for the Certificate in Personnel Practice (CPP) and Certificate in Training Practice (CTP); and approximately ten hours per week for the Professional Development Scheme (PDS). These estimates include the time needed to undertake relevant assignments.

Our workshops are planned to minimise the amount of time you need to spend away from your workplace, with an average of about one workshop per month. MOL's blend of flexible learning materials and tutor support ensures that you can study effectively outside of workshops.

...if you would like to defer your studies

We understand that everyone experiences pressures and events at home and at work which can affect their ability to study. We work with our students to help them stay on the course, deferring their studies if necessary, rather than give up the course completely.

Flexible learning is based on a highly successful and interactive approach that includes

  • support and direction from tutors who are also current HR practitioners and skilled facilitators. Tutors can be contacted by telephone and email, as well as at workshops
  • interactive workshops where you work with tutors and other students to consolidate your learning and put the theory into practice
  • learning materials that are interactive and highly practical, and are provided in the most suitable media for the learning required. Our blend of learning materials includes printed workbooks and handouts, CD-ROMs and resources available on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
  • access to the CIPD's web resources including electronic journals, surveys, summaries of research, practical tools and training activities. Students studying for the Professional Development Scheme (PDS) can access the CIPD's dedicated Learner Support Site (LSS)
  • an assessment strategy that is relevant to the programme, based on assignments, CIPD examinations, research reports and continuous professional development (CPD)

All course materials (and refreshments, including lunch, at workshops) are provided as part of your fee.
