Professional Assessment of Competence (PAC)

Why choose this approach?

PAC provides an alternative route to membership of the CIPD for senior managers and HR professionals. It enables you to provide current evidence of your competence in relation to the CIPD's Professional Standards.

The main areas of the Professional Standards are

• People Management and Development (PM&D) – you must demonstrate candidate management in your own specialist area, including how personnel and development can make a wider contribution to the effective operation of your organisation
• Leadership and Management (L&M) – you must demonstrate managerial knowledge and competence in relation to the management of organisations at operational and strategic levels
• Applied Personnel and Development (AP&D) – you must complete a Management Research Report (MRR) and a CIPD continuous professional development (CPD) record
• Specialist and Generalist Personnel and Development – you must demonstrate that you can meet the standards in four of MOL's Specialist and Generalist Electives

Is this approach for me?

PAC is aimed at senior managers and HR professionals who have a minimum of five years' management experience, three of which must be within HR at a senior level. You must be able to provide current work-based evidence that is no more than two years old to demonstrate that you are competent against elements of CIPD's Professional Standards.

What level of CIPD membership will I achieve?

The cost of CIPD membership is not included in the course, and you will need to obtain membership directly with the CIPD on commencement of the programme.

On completion of the PAC, you will be entitled to Chartered Membership or Fellowship status, depending upon your experience.

What are my career prospects/next steps after the course?

PAC will provide you with Chartered Membership/Fellowship of the CIPD, and is a valuable step towards professional appointments within HR Management and Development.

How will I be assessed?

An approved PAC assessor will look at your evidence in comparison with the CIPD Professional Standards. There will also be independent verification of the assessor's work.
