The specialist top-up MA in SHR is an exciting and unique, action learning based programme for senior HRM and HRD  professionals. It enables you to undertake continuous professional development (CPD) at a strategic level through supported, research-based, experiential learning which leads to a Masters degree (awarded by Liverpool Business School, a faculty of Liverpool John Moores University).

The aim of the course is to develop your ability to reflect critically on your experience in the context of current theory and practice, and then to apply this to strategic HR management and development challenges within your organisation.

How is the course delivered?

The course consists of your own research, supported by

  • four workshops
  • six action learning sets (ALS)

An ALS is a workshop in which students work together in small groups. MOL provides a supportive and challenging forum to enable the groups of students to reflect on their learning, performance and research activities.

Where do the workshops take place?

MA courses are held in London and Manchester, although MOL can deliver in other areas of the UK if there is sufficient demand.

How long does the course last?

Eight to ten months

How will I be assessed?

There are no examinations. You will need to complete

  • a consultancy report, demonstrating your ability to identify, analyse and evaluate the strategic implications of an HR proposal
  • a research proposal, demonstrating your ability to assess research methodologies and plan an appropriate research design
  • a dissertation, demonstrating your ability to undertake independent research and apply relevant theory to a strategic HR issue

You will also need to create a reflective learning log, providing evidence of reflective learning and plans to sustain/extend this learning.
