Advanced Professional Diploma in Managing Organisational Learning and Development (MOLD)

The APD in MOLD is designed to extend your awareness of learning and development beyond your own organisation and the business sector in which it operates. You will develop a more informed approach to the management of learning and development, enabling you to anticipate changes in your organisation You will then able to devise the learning and development policies and decisions that enable your organisation to implement change programmes.
The areas covered by the course are
- the contexts in which different organisations operate
- HR issues, including training, learning, knowledge and evaluation
- creating a learning and development function that improves organisational capacity (Learning and Development module - L&D)
- building productive environments and creating knowledge capital (Managing Organisational Learning and Knowledge module - MOLK)
- dealing with the realities of training and development operations (Managing the Training and Development Function module - MTDF)
- enhancing management capability to deliver present and future organisation agendas (Management Development module - MD)
Is this course for me?
The APD in MOLD is aimed at HRD managers and senior practitioners who would like to specialise in the learning and development function.
The course also provides a basis of knowledge which you can build on to work towards the CIPD Professional Development Scheme (PDS). Four of the Learning and Development Electives modules (L&D, MOLK, MTDF and MD) overlap with modules that are part of MOL's CIPD PDS, so there is an opportunity to progress to other modules of the PDS.
What level of CIPD membership will I have?
While studying for the APD in MOLD, if you are not already a CIPD member you must register for Studying Affiliate Member status, which is mandatory while you are studying. The cost of CIPD membership is not included in the course, and you will need to obtain membership directly with the CIPD.
Completion of the APD in MOLD entitles you to Licentiate Member status.
If you progress to the CIPD PDS course, completion of the PDS ultimately leads to Graduate Member status of the CIPD.

How is the course delivered?
The course is delivered through flexible learning, consisting of
- 11 full day workshops
- one personal tutorial
- self-study using CIPD and MOL learning materials
- tutor support via email, fax or telephone
- two action learning sets (ALS)
An ALS is a workshop in which students work together in small groups. MOL provides a supportive and challenging forum to enable the groups of students to reflect on their learning, performance and research activities.

MOL has delivery venues throughout the UK.

Twelve months
How will I be assessed?
You will need to attend all of the workshops and to complete
- four assignments
- four CIPD national examinations
